Disable Outlook 'Cached' Mode

Modified on Thu, 9 Sep, 2021 at 7:44 PM

In this guide you'll be shown how to disable caching mode in Outlook

If you're finding that your Outlook is not updating new class lists or new members of staff, it's likely your Outlook is in 'Cached' mode. Caching is a form of memory storage that is used to speed up applications and websites because it remembers the last state it was used in.

To disable this:

1) Open Outlook

2) In the top right, click 'File'

3) Click the drop down box 'Account Settings'

4) In the drop down, click 'Account Settings...'

5) In the box that opens up, double click on your email address

6) In the next window which opens, uncheck the box labeled 'Use Cached Exchange Mode'

7) Click Next and follow it through to the end

IMPORTANT: You will need to restart Outlook for this to take effect!

By doing this, you should now be able to search for groups and staff in the global address book. Any issues, please do contact your local IT team.
